Storage Shed Dweller

John Z pointed out his little guy (gal?) today in one of the owl-accessible storage sheds at the range. He is about 9" tall when puffed up. The only route in to the shed without a key is airborne so the spot is reasonably safe from ground-based predators.

In the mornings, John said, there are sometimes two of them sitting in this same high perch and sharing a dead mouse for breakfast. Later in the day, however, they are more likely down low - 110 degree heat rises, you know - and possibly splashing in the shallow bird bath set up for them.

I wish my intensity of attention on the dot was half as good as his watching me!
