All in all, I’m nice and comfortable. It’s not very foreign unless you count trash cans next to toilets where you put used toilet paper instead of flushing it.

I heard about this place from Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, the TV show with a searchable map on their website. I visited the restaurant a year ago but put it in my travel log’s “Don’t bother” category.

Two blackened with a cold bottle and I’m out $6.83 plus the cash I leave on the table. It’s dirt cheap, extremely fresh, spicey and steaming hot.

If you travel a little or a lot, there’s a huge amount of help you could be getting, and it’s free. Perhaps you are already using it. Regardless, for me, it’s a life saver.

The trip is on!

My recommendation is sincere: “Mandarin. Learn to speak and understand Mandarin.”

Two routes to get here, via Los Angeles or on secondaries, and two choices for the mode of transportation, flying or driving.

What triggered the hostilities at this otherwise serene place on the edge of Concord was when the government took arms against its citizens.

Along a thirteen mile stretch of California 62 a few miles west of Vidal Junction, the highway runs beside both a railroad and an irrigation canal. There are no houses, no restaurants, no filling stations, not even any deserted shacks. Just the canal, the tracks and the road.
